The Beauty of Biblical Language
Father Brown was walking down the street when he met little Tommy coming the other way. Little Tommy was coming back from the corner shop, with a loaf of bread under his arm. Tommy had his hand in his trouser pocket as he walked, and was playing with his bits. The good priest felt he should correct this, but do it diplomatically.
“Hello Tommy,” he said, “I see you have The Staff of Life in one hand. What do you have in the other?”
“A loaf of bread,” said little Tommy.

hummm…..this one is making me think….what was the “staff of life?” they never talked about it in church, but i always heard about it from other church affiliations. never wondered about it until now.
Bread. It’s the “staff” that supports life, like a staff supports a cripple. You probably need to have grown up in Britain to grab the association.
*snicker* I’ve never heard of bread as the staff of life. I learned something new! Thanks!

Ohhh, haha, now I get it. Didn’t know it meant bread, either.
