Theory
I have a theory, that the purpose of much of modern education is to raise us to a more exaulted level of stupidity.
To cram us with an ever increasing load of irrelevant information
To totally discourage us from knowing the inner self
And draw us into the outer world of dreary toil
Ignoring the simple joy of just being alive
In order that empowered assholes may use us for their endless games

I think you may be right
Seems like the more educated I am the less useful I am to the “others” in society. I can’t get a damn good paying job, to say the least. I agree, also, that the more education I get the more I question life and it becomes harder for me to be happy and live life. Anyways, your post reminds me of a line from the show Absolutely Fabulous. Edina says this to her highly educated daughter when she can’t find a job:
“Now, I wouldn’t mind it if you sat around stuffing your face all day watching telly. But, when someone deliberately overeducates themselves out of the possibilty of useful employment–I take issue.”
Ah, yes, I was thinking similar thoughts as I finished up some ridiculous ass ‘activities’ for my speech class. The most useless, time wasting, ridiculous ‘excersizes’ in role playing and stupid semantics that all really boil down to common sense. And I paid $700 for this class?? But no, I didn’t pay $700 for the class, I paid the $700 so that I would be one class closer to finishing my degree – because it’s all about that end result – a piece of paper that claims I have worth to the world, even though I acquired it through many such mind-numbing classes like this one.

i definitely belong in both of those clubs…i am extremely analytical of my life and life in general. im glad to know theres other people out there who are like me.

OMFG i’m not against school, i just think people can learn better when they aren’t being oppressed and bullied around. i dont need “appropriate attire” and a ridiculously submissive attitude to learn.

I concur. Sickening, isn’t it? Yet we still unknowingly subscribe to all this crap. I, myself, am starting college in January. Part of me wonders if I even should have bothered in the first place. Just another way for society to push us into a world where we work, work, work and then die — seemingly for nothing. But, I’m a pessimist. And I’m sure you are too, because I just realized that our birthdays are only a few days apart, which means you’re probably a Pisces, and astrologically speaking, just as angry at the world as me.
The high school education that I received was completely lacking dialog, which I think was it’s major flaw.
The outer world is not necessarily all dreary toil, it is what it is and beyond that it can only dreary if that is what we make of it. The simple joy of living can be felt in and through that outer world; the simple joy of living can be expressed and felt through most things we encounter in life. Dreary or not.
But maybe I am misunderstanding you, clarify ‘outer world’.

I do think that I am apt to agree… sometimes (and more so often than not) it is nice to just exist and enjoy one’s company for what it is.
