DearRicky Wows ‘Em in Ajax (link)
From three to five yesterday was a memorable slice in Ricky’s life, as he held centre stage at Chapters Book Store, in Ajax, Ontario, just east of Toronto. For two hours Ricky’s cup overflowed as the surging crowd of his many friends and supporters dominated the bookstore at this, Ricky’s first book signing.
I was there, talking to Ricky when he wasn’t beseiged, and otherwise wandering about, blathering to innocent strangers about Ricky, books, Xanga and all that stuff. I’ve never met Ricky before in person, just on Xanga - and very pleased I was to meet him and be part of this event. But even more pleased that this courageous young man was happy at the great turn out, where he sold at last count over seventy-three copies of his book, five years in the writing…

That’s amazing. I wish Ricky the best of luck. He’s a tough guy, he’ll get on with life.
Wow, good for him!
@reckless_eagle - his determination and endurance astound me. It’s very strange, but it’s one thing to “meet” someone on Xanga, which is ninety-percent hot air and bullshit, and another to meet them in real life, where for the first time it is possible to comprehend with the senses what the mind grasps poorly; that they exist, and are realer than their words.
Awesome!
I say “good for him”. I hope that I can be that successful when I run with mine. =)
That’s great! I wish I was there!
@Xcite_Me - there’s a real buzz to these events. I thought I’d been there about an hour or so, then I looked at my watch… It was time to pack up! all two hours gone!
@ctaretz - Yessum, awesome. Five years work under such conditions! and he’s modest too, like his fellow genius, me!
@hesacontradiction - Find lots of big drums and bang ‘em all. That’s what it takes.
@imTHEmeowMIXcat - He’s De Man.
Thanks again for coming, Graham! (:
You are indeed fortunate to meet such an inspiring person in once in a lifetime experience. I wish I could be there to meet him in person.
@DearRicky - No thanks needed, it was pure fun. Now I’ve been able to oggle your nurses too.
I hope it does well for him!
@seedsower - So far, it’s doing pretty good. He got a good turn out at the bricks ‘n mortar event, but that doesn’t go too far nowadays. It would be nice if some local radio station would pick up on it. I’ plugging away steadily at the idea that we could use Xanga to form a collective that would assist all these little-known authors on the internet, hence http://darkoozeripple.xanga.com/738377364/xangan-authors-and-writers-on-amazon/
awesomeness
Even though @DearRicky - and I never got along on Xanga in the past. I am really happy for him. I wish him the best of luck.
He is a man of great accomplishment!
Aww, it’s so cool to see people from Xanga writing a book and having events like this! Good for DearRicky!
@Man@mancouch - I’m lucky in that I’m just a few miles down the road in Toronto. The great thing about Xanga is that we’re spread out all over the world, and the tragedy is that we’re spread out all over the world. I’ve been working for some time to bring together the various authors and so forth on Xanga (not that I’m the only one trying, or the first to try this) in an attempt to form some kind of power group to promote indie authors, most especially those on Xanga. Considering that we’re now in a world where an indifferent publishing industry has promotes only well known and therefore safe authors, even when they turn out crap, I feel this has to be a good idea.
@ShimmerBodyCream - awesomefullnessarity!
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - That’s a very positive, decisive opinion. Why not expand on it with a blog?
@sonychak - he can be pretty feisty, but then he has a lot to contend with.
@darkoozeripple - Your blog and Ricky’s blog speak for themselves.
So glad that Ricky has a nice book signing and it is amazing that you were there to support him! The power in the room must have been amazing!
@WondersCafe - It was. We scribblers had a strong summer; two other authors in the Xanga circle (now known officially/unofficially as Xac, the Xanga Authors Collective) published in the same month. Where have you been, by the way? What are you doing in London? Are you on the run, on the lam, taken it on your toes, done a runner, done a moonlight flit, legged it?
The Brits I know are quite sharp with their game…all of them are cooler than James Bond.
@WondersCafe are they now. I ‘ll have to rationalise and say that they’ve been practicing since I’m not there to inspire tham.
Enjoying the recent warm weather? Now it is turning into freezing!
@WondersCafe - right now it is like mid-summer in Toronto. The sky is brilliant blue, the temperature is at about 25. It’s like August. The last week in August was like October.
