Fear
“Obsession” was interesting. Strange how other people’s concept of obsession is different from mine.
What about fear? Which novels or films do you feel are based on the theme of fear? Or worry, which is perhaps fear’s younger brother.

Strictly based upon my fears, a novel would have to be World War Z. The living dead has been and always will be something that fascinates and scares the living shit out of me at the same time.
@wherethefishlives - Possibly the fear arises from meeting so many living who act like living dead? Fear not my son, I will protect you.

Soylent Green. The Legend of Boggy Creek. (Scared the shit outta me, saw it at a real “cinema” back when I was a kid.) 28 Days Later/The Omega Man…other stories of world apocalypse. Alien. The little green man isn’t always nice……..

Any movie where the lead character knows a life-changing truth and no other character will believe the lead, and then the lead is either killed or winds up in a mental hospital.
Horror movies, and political commentaries.

I think every novel deals with it indirectly. Fear is what breeds conflict. Novels are always based on conflict. Spite Fences, The Guests of War trilogy, Happiness, Hood…all different types of books, but all deal with fear to an extent. It’s an ever present reality that people don’t like to think about so they choose to not see it in their books.

@ravensgift - yes, the nibble of little fears. I once read that a certain yogi said that anxienty make pain twice as bad, and fear ten times.
@darkoozeripple - In those books I mentioned, you’ll only directly see fear in one or two. You’ll have to look for it in the rest. Spanish Fly is another great one. As are The Prestige, The Memory Keepers Daughter, The Stolen Child…oh I could go on and on….

@darkoozeripple - Hah – I’m just sitting here beside my bookshelf and rattling off names of books I’ve read recently. That “Hood” book I mentioned is the first of a trilogy. The second is called Scarlet and the third is still in the works. Any more suggestions for or from me, just give a comment or message.
