Phasors on Stun
I was commenting a friend a few minutes ago, who had blogged about an issue concerning Christians and cash. As the friend had posted protected I won’t mention a name.
By the time I’d finished commenting I was in such a rage that I decided to blog it, and here it is.
I was raised (nominally) as a Christian. I can only remember one of the Bible teachers at the Sunday School I briefly attended. He was later arrested for fencing stolen goods. I have seen this occur over and over again, and have myself suffered badly at the hands of these crooks who hide behind a pretence to religion. In fact since coming to North America I have often noted the tie-in whereby aqquisitive business people make a point of shouting out their allegiance to Christ at every opportunity. This practice is much more marked than in the UK, where our crooks tend to be more honest atheist crooks.
I tell you in all truth, that my personal observation has been that a major characteristic of Christians (as a statistical group, not necessarily as individuals) is that they are as dishonest with cash as they are with most points of intellectual common sense.
I have no problem with Christ, who is obviously one of the many masters of the inner life, but “automatic” Christians make me want to run amok.
What do I mean by an “automatic” Christian? It goes like this: “I am a Christian, therefore I am automatically right, automatically saved, automatically better than a Jew, Muslim, Buddhist etc.”
It is a system that is dead, because it has killed itself. The only reason it stands on its feet is that the need of people for meaning and hope props it up.
I found something better many years ago that comforts and sustains me, and thank God I did. I pity any sincere person who has to go through life with nothing better than the ancient, corrupt system of Christianity to sustain them.
I now feel very pissed. I think I will blog this.
I do indeed have a few book projects in mind, and the non-fiction one is called “Blue Sky Hijack,” my account of how established religion comes between us and our souls.
And now I’m going to bed. Good night. If anyone doesn’t like this be advised: to paraphrase the words of Admiral Lord Nelson, “I have not even begun to blog.”

I agree with you totally.
Recently, I have been arguing mostly with some Christian friends because it’s like they have become robots. They just worship God without letting those around them express what they feel–especially if it is negative.
Here’s what i sent to a friend in myspace to whom I have been having a conversation with:
And about calling from God. I don’t think that God called us for a specific thing. Rather, I would like to generalize it that God wants us to CARE. PERIOD. Enough said.
If there was no care at all, then God’s existence isn’t valid because He made NOT just one human being, not just one creature with the highest intelligence, not just one…but two….so that they may care for each other and to the future generation.
That’s the whole point in everything.
To CARE.
TO LOVE.
TO BE CONSIDERATE.
But the people now?
Hahaha. They are so intent in their worship, so intent in bowing their heads in prayer—but what do they do? They murder unborn babies, they do mass suicide bombings (like the devout Muslims), they kill their own mothers and fathers, they exploit children….
See what i mean?
Faith means nothing if your actions do not prove it.
There is a culture of people in the US who are not christians by any stretch of the word, many wouldn’t dream of stepping into a church, but who claim to be for personal gain. I believe that this is because our society was founded on Christian ideals and it is in the head of society that if you are a christian then you must be a good person.
I know a number of christians, I am one, who think that these “functional atheists” are just a drain on society and give those of us who are true Christians a bad rap. I think that televangelists have done more harm to America than if they have good even if you were to multiply by 1000 the good they have done.
Radical Christian groups are not any better than islamic fundamentalists. I want to declare a holy war on Christian fundamentalists because it would get rid of the assholes who are constantly destroying society.
I agree with c_jamaica that faith means nothing without actions to prove it. It is an inside change that makes one a christian but that change affects the outside as well.
Man, I hear ya about ‘automatic Christians’, who above all, believe themselves to be perfectly and automatically right, and righteous, for that matter. Organized religions just seems to have an inherent problem, however in that you have a bunch of people hoping for something larger than themselves so they can be better than they are. And since you are in a group with all these other people, you start to believe that you are better, at least better than everyone outside the group. Then you try to mix money and holiness, and just get a whole lot of ugliness. And I would love to hear more about your book idea, because you generally have a fucking fabulous and interesting way of looking at things.
You are correct. The problem with your accusation is that you are assuming that the title fits the person. For example, I can call myself a politician, but I have never ran for office and I don’t intend on running for office–I am a lousy, horrible politician, but I can still call myself one. It is really sad to see that the people who are “Christians” in your life are people who do not fit the description of a Christian, and are thus abusing the “Christian label.” If you have a Bible, read Matthew chapters 5-7. This is the Sermon on the Mount, and it is supposed to be the ethical and moral guide for Christians, unfortunately not enough people are following it. I can almost guarantee that if you met a true Sermon on the Mount Christian, then you would not be disappointed and you would not be let down.
I’m glad you’re reading a lot of inspiring stuff. Because you really do write fantastic stuff, at least I think so. =]
Oh, wow.

No argument from me. The Automatic crowd makes up everything that’s wrong with the U.S., IMHO.
